Double Hold'em - Terms and Game Sequence

  • ‘3 hole cards’ – this term means the 3 cards each player is dealt at the hand’s outset, then there’s a
  • ‘Pre-flop betting round’ – this term means the betting round after each player has been dealt his 3 hole cards, then
  • There’s a ‘flop’ - this is where 3 board community cards are simultaneously opened, then
  • Each player sets his cards in an “inverted V”; ‘the point card’ is the card that plays with each of the other cards BUT
  • as to the ‘non-point cards’ – the other 2 cards each player has in his hand which are not at the point – these do not play with each other,
  • The player now has two ‘2-card hands’ – each is a hand made by the point card and one of the non-point cards, then
  • There’s a betting round – the ‘flop betting round’
  • A fourth community card is opened, this is the ‘turn,’ then
  • There’s a betting round – the ‘turn betting round’
  • A fifth community card is opened, this is the ‘river,’ then
  • There’s a betting round – the ‘river betting round,’ then
  • The pot is disbursed to the player – or players (ties are possible) who holds the 2-card hand that together with the board’s cards, forms the best poker hand – ‘the winning hand,’ using poker’s conventional hand rankings.  If the five community cards form the strongest hand, the hand is a tie and all players who have not folded split the pot. This is not a sweepstakes!
